North Central Conference Meet

Alright, I haven't posted here in a while but I have some updates on my training over the last two weeks. The conference meet went really well for us as a team and for me it felt like it was the first time I really felt comfortable racing all year. It was really close between us and Augie. They beat us by 9 points and our 2-5 spread was 21 seconds and their 2-5 was all in between ours.

I didn't know what they think going into the meet because I had run a workout the Saturday morning before and stopped the workout half way through because I felt that shitty. I took the next day off from running and just walked around campus a bit. My mileage was somewhere between 45 and 50 for both weeks with some descent workouts in both weeks.

I am going into the regional meet on November 4th with the notion that anything can happen. Although I don't really care much for rankings I do look at them. We got some respect around the region as we are now ranked 10th. Five teams make the national meet from our region and I think four of them are pretty well taken by Western, Adams, Mines, and Mankato. Basically I am saying the fifth spot is up for grabs and about 5 different teams could take the last set of plane tickets to Orlando.

Winter can eat it

Alright, I realize I just made an entry yesterday so there can't be too much to write about, but this fricken morning I woke up at about 7 a.m. for class and sure enough, white shit all over the ground. I ALMOST went straight back to bed because of how depressing it is. I ran for about an hour today in the 30+ MPH wind and slipped all over the god damned ground for another 5 mins or so. The worst part about all of this is that it will get at least another 50 degrees colder than the low was today at some point. So that is my take on winter, and unfortunately I think it is here for another 6 months or however long it sticks around here. Damnit all anyway.

Week Training: 10/2-10/8

This weeks training was way less than what I feel I needed. I hit 55 miles on 6 runs. Monday we were in the pool for about 45 minutes. The only 'workout' was a 25 minute tempo run on Wednesday and my long run was about 14 miles real easy (1hr 45 mins). On Friday we were in Aberdeen and ran against Northern. The meet was pretty low key, I was 9th overall in 27:57 on a really flat course but it was really windy.

I was feeling pretty frustered thinking I should be running a lot faster by this point in the season, but I think things are starting to come together at the right time. Today we had a workout in the park consisting of 3xmile 1 mile jog after the first one, then 4 mins rest after the next 2, then 1x1200, 3 mins rest, and 1x800 (5:15, 5:14, 5:10, 3:55, 2:30). It was pretty damn windy today too. I capped it off with a good Rogue Dead Guy Ale at the Blue Moose.

Pre-Regions

This week we ran in Wayne, NE at the course where regions is going to be. It was a 10k and we ran it more as a workout than anything with most of us running in trainers and the intentions of negative splitting. I think my time was 36:30 and I must have went through 5,000m in about 18:40. I didn't feel great so I pretty much just held pace.

For the week I hit 67 miles on 8 runs. We ran a workout on tuesday. For me it was 2xmile with 2:15 recovery (5:19, 5:17) then 1 mile recovery and 1xmile with 2:30 recovery and 1x1200 (5:13, 3:52). I also had a long run of about 13 miles. Overall a pretty good week. This week we are heading to Aberdeen for a meet with Northern State. I don't know who is all going to be there but I seems as if it might just be a dual.
